Buffalo Place promotes Downtown through the management and production of special events and initiatives.

These events work to create a positive Downtown narrative for visitors, employees, and residents. The events roster serves as an opportunity to familiarize the community with Downtown, create memories, and encourage initial and return visitation.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, May through October

The Downtown Country Market is an annual farmers’ market held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., rain or shine, on Main Street between Court and Church Streets. This year’s season runs from May 16 to October 24, 2019.

For 37 years, the market has offered residents, workers, and visitors the perfect place to pick up local fresh produce, enjoy tasty treats like baked goods and fresh lemonade, and purchase plants and flowers to brighten gardens, homes, and offices. The market is also home to a community tent that local nonprofits can utilize to share their mission and services with the public. The market also proudly participates in the SNAP Program, Double Up Food Bucks, Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, Farmers’ Market Federation of New York, and Pride of New York Program.

Buffalo Place thanks presenting sponsor M&T Bank for its continued support of the Downtown Country Market and Downtown Buffalo.

Thursdays, June 13th through August 8th at Fountain Plaza

Thursday & Main is a free happy hour series featuring all things local, including live music, restaurants, and Big Ditch Brewing Company and Labatt beer. This year, Thursday & Main will take place on Thursdays from June 13th through August 8th Fountain Plaza from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday & Main is presented by M&T Bank.

The event continues the mission of Thursday at the Square: creating awareness and spin-off business for Downtown restaurants, bars, and retailers.

Thirty two years ago, in 1987, Fountain Plaza hosted the first Thursday at the Park season, produced and managed by Buffalo Place. One year later in 1988, crowds for the happy hour became too large for the space. The series was shifted to Lafayette Square and Thursday at the Square was born. Fountain Plaza provides the perfect setting for this summer’s Thursday & Main series.

Thursday & Main is sponsored by M&T Bank, Try-It Distributing, Labatt Blue, Big Ditch Brewing Company, and Crowley Web. Logo design by Crowley Webb.

Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Presented by Five Star Bank

December 7, 2019

Saturday, December 7th, join us for the 2019 Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration at Rotary Rink at Fountain Plaza. This annual event is presented by Five Star Bank and marks the official opening of the free ice-skating season in Downtown Buffalo. The event begins at 5pm with free ice-skating. At 6pm, Buffalo Place and local elected officials, countdown the lighting of the tree and fireworks display over Fountain Plaza.

“We look forward to carrying on the tradition of free ice-skating in the heart of Downtown Buffalo,” said Michael T. Schmand, Executive Director of Buffalo Place, Inc. “In cooperation with Rotary Club of Buffalo and the City of Buffalo, Buffalo Place has managed the operation of this outdoor ice-skating rink for 20 years. Renovations to Fountain Plaza, and the completion of the Cars Sharing Main Street project in this block, continue to provide residents and visitors with an enjoyable and affordable outdoor winter activity.”

Distinguished guest speakers at the event will include Byron W. Brown, Mayor of the City of Buffalo, and Mark C. Poloncarz, and Erie County Executive. The guests will speak briefly and then lead a countdown to the official lighting of the tree followed by a fireworks display over Rotary Rink. Anthony J. Colucci III, President and Vice Chairman of Buffalo Place Inc., will serve as emcee for the evening.

Immediately following the fireworks and tree lighting, the fun will continue with visits with Santa, free rides on the kiddie Merry-Go-Round and Ferris Wheel, holiday gifts, and more. Duke’s Donuts will be on-site with hot, freshly made doughnuts available for purchase. Ice-skating is free and ice-skate rental is available; $2 for children and $3 for adults. Guests are encouraged to bring their own ice-skates and avoid waiting in the ice-skate rental line. Santa will visit with children from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Buffalo Place also thanks our official Media Sponsor and Partners, The Buffalo News.
