The Flickenger Athletic Center was built as one of the main venues for the 1993 World University Games. Burt P. Flickenger was Chairman of the games. The Flickenger Center continues to play host to stellar NCAA athletic competitions annually. It also hosts a wide variety of high school swim meets throughout the year. The facility also houses a state-of-the-art weight and fitness room. The Flickenger Athletic Center is part of the Erie Community College Downtown campus and for a nominal fee, membership is open to the public.
